TMS Therapy

Innovative treatment for depression and anxiety.

Initial Consultation and Assessment
Procedure: Patients undergo a thorough evaluation by a psychiatrist or a trained medical professional. This includes reviewing medical history, current medications, and previous treatments.
Duration: Typically, the initial consultation lasts about 60-90 minutes.
Indications: To determine if the patient is a suitable candidate for TMS therapy.
Mapping the Treatment Area
Procedure: During the first TMS session, the technician identifies the precise area of the brain to target by mapping the patient’s motor cortex. This involves delivering magnetic pulses to the scalp and observing the corresponding finger or hand movements. Duration: This session may take 60-90 minutes.
Indications: Ensures accurate targeting of the left dorsolateral prefrontal cortex, the area commonly associated with mood regulation.

Standard TMS Treatment Sessions
Procedure: Patients sit in a comfortable chair, and an electromagnetic coil is placed against the scalp. The coil sends repetitive magnetic pulses to stimulate nerve cells in the targeted brain region. Patients remain awake and alert throughout the procedure. Duration: Each session lasts about 20-40 minutes.
Frequency: Typically administered 5 times a week for 4-6 weeks.
Indications: Used primarily for treating major depressive disorder (MDD) and anxiety. Safety and Side Effects
Procedure: TMS is generally well-tolerated with minimal side effects. Common side effects include scalp discomfort and mild headaches, which typically resolve after a few sessions.
Indications: Suitable for patients who have not responded to medication and psychotherapy, and those seeking a non-invasive treatment option with fewer systemic side effects.
